Watershed Studios- Galway

Translating my experience of presence found in Irish nature- through explorative studies in watercolor, assemblage sculpture, and book arts.

I’m so excited and grateful to be apart of this wonderful community and family here at watershed alongside @donnawrightartist. Experiencing all these elements in Ireland is truly unbelievable! I found myself looking for the presence of others in nature. The paths and the way the nature works in tandem to the people. The love and respect with the land - you can feel the connection between the people and nature. This body of work is unconsciously from following paths by others or the intersections of people and the elements. The unique woven lands with rocks, paths, remains, and movement. This presence is the core of my art here. And moving beyond representing just the land, but translating my experience of the presence land and people. Moving from actual representational perspectives into more abstract and meaningful to my experience in these paths and places.

After walking in Galway Pier or along the countryside I would catalog these moments and bring them back to the studio. My process starts with a trail or piece of land and my feelings or experiences in these areas that accompany it. Elements like the wind, colors, sounds, movement etc. This abstraction relies on the watercolors’ natural ability to move and melt together; with these elements i remember. While I can recall each of the moments and guiding forces behind the works - the intention is for the viewer to feel the location and the elements in their own way- and focus on the subject of connection and presence in these moments.
